Pacem in Terris

Written by Dr. Jessica Rothmeyer on October 23, 2019

The idea that as Christians we are to have peace, no matter what, always sounds so good in theory. I think we can even begin to believe it is possible during a good sermon or after a weekend retreat and we are filled with hope. But how difficult it can be to hold on to that belief and walk in peace when the circumstances of real-life come our way.

Jesus was called the Prince of Peace, he instructed the disciples in Luke 10:5 “Whatever house you enter, begin by saying “Peace to this house.”

One of the first lessons I learned about the supernatural is that we each have a spiritual atmosphere that we carry with us, wherever we go. So often people talk about how oppressive negative atmospheres can be, and this is true, but as Christians we are called to soak in God’s presence, be filled with the Holy Spirit, and model the love of Christ, so as to bring peace and exude hope through our personal atmosphere, which would then affect those around us in powerful ways. I knew I was making progress in my own spiritual journey as people began to express how they would feel very loved in my presence. No matter what their personal atmosphere was that day, I could help share God’s love and leave them with peace. People would also comment about how they felt a sense of peace in my home and in my counseling office. This peace was present because of how I had intentionally asked God to fill those spaces with His presences, had spent time praying and worshipping in those spaces and had claimed these places as God’s

Kingdom property.

So how do we have this kind of atmosphere? One in which helps others experience God through us? It can only happen by spending time with God, yourself. I would encourage you to view my class on Psalm 23 “The Good Shepherd” to learn more about this revelation. We will only be able to share spiritually what we currently possess, so when we indulge in God’s love to the point it is overflowing, Psalm 23:5, then it will just come out through us, as we interact with others.

The title of this blog comes from the name of a silent retreat center that I visit

frequently, when I need to recharge and revive my Godly atmosphere.

I believe we all need these soothing and healing times with our Heavenly Daddy. A place where God meets us, in the quiet, and fills our hearts, minds, physical bodies and spiritual atmosphere with His luxurious love…so that we can go and be a light to the world again.

Peace to your spirit, in Jesus’ name.
